The sound of one hand clapping. If you enjoy watching inarticulate characters smoke cigarettes and mumble, Stephens is for you.
No shortage of melodrama. The constant VO narration tells more than shows. There are some interesting personal speeches. Plenty of fantasy “billionaires and castles” stuff.
Solid. Nice use of verse.
Very funny stuff.
A fairly histrionic melodrama.
Rock solid. It’s all there.
Typical of the issue-driven crap that passes for theatre in the US these days.
Has its moments but very old-fashioned.
Seeing this show in 2010 at Playwrights Horizons remains a major theatre-going high point. Tense, taut and gripping.
